The Highway 73 Access Area on the Gaston County side is the main public boat ramp for Mountain Island Lake, with parking and space for fishing from the bank. Catfish are the usual catch. It is a working ramp instead of a park, and the surfacing shows real wear, but it is the most practical launch for anyone bringing a powered boat onto this lake.
