The 10 best butcher shops in the Charlotte area

Butcher counters around Charlotte range from a whole-animal shop in Myers Park with dry-aged beef to a Mexican carnicería that makes chorizo and tortillas every day, a halal meat counter in University City and a Mooresville-area country store on a property where meat has been cut since the 1960s. This list covers 10 shops in Charlotte, Mooresville, Concord, Iron Station and Rock Hill, from neighborhood grocers with a meat case to a farm store that sells beef raised on the farm. It is for home cooks planning Thanksgiving and holiday roasts, grillers shopping for steaks and anyone who wants a cut the supermarket doesn’t carry. Each entry has what the counter is known for, prices where posted and a tip on preorders or hours. Entries are listed alphabetically, not ranked.

How we chose

Every shop here has a fresh meat counter as the main draw and either passed a 2026 county or state inspection or posts 2026 holiday orders and hours. Picks are based on how long each shop has operated, what the counter is known for, posted prices and coverage from Axios Charlotte, Lake Norman Publications, the Cabarrus County visitors bureau, the Barbecue Bros blog and historian Tom Hanchett. Grocery chains were left out, and the one franchise on the list says so. Several carnicerías and halal markets passed 2026 inspections but had too little published detail to write about, and shops that could not show 2026 evidence of being open were dropped. No shop paid to be included. Prices and hours were last checked on October 27, 2026.

The Butcher’s Market

Jim and Ginnie Meehan have owned this South Charlotte meat market since April 2010, according to the shop. The case covers poultry, premium beef, lamb, veal, pork and exotic meats, and customer favorites include wet-aged steaks, marinated steak tips and marinated chicken wings. The shop doubles as a neighborhood grocer, with fresh seafood, bread, prepared sides and oven-ready meals made in house, baked goods, beer and wine.

Why we chose them

  • Butchers trim, debone and portion meat to order at no extra charge.
  • For the holidays, the counter sells brined Thanksgiving turkeys and seasoned roasts.
  • A 10% discount rotates: Monday for doctors and nurses, Tuesday for Ladies’ Day, Wednesday for seniors and Thursday for teachers.
  • Military, fire, police and EMS get 10% off Monday through Thursday with ID.
  • Discounts exclude beer and wine, and discounts and hours may change on holidays.

Address: Charlotte — 8410 Rea Rd., Suite 110

Whole-animal butchery came to Myers Park in 2024, when this shop, which started in Asheville in 2011, opened a 1,500-square-foot Charlotte location, Axios Charlotte reported. Dry-aged beef, whole-animal cuts, house-made sausages and charcuterie fill the case, and everything is cut in house from farms the shop works with, according to the business. Staff give buying and cooking advice to anyone trying an unfamiliar cut.

Why we chose them

  • Co-owner and CEO PJ Jackson was born and raised in Charlotte, Axios reported.

Shop N Save Market

The Dingler family had owned this Mooresville store for 48 years when Lake Norman Publications called the store a regional favorite for custom-cut meats in July 2025. The original building is a convenience store, butcher shop, lunch spot and fresh market in one. Why we chose them

  • The Market has a full butcher shop with prime meats and cut-to-order service.
  • The smaller store also stocks a wide selection of sauces, spices and rubs.
  • The Morrison Plantation butcher shop kept Tuesday-through-Saturday hours as of July 2025, so check before a Sunday or Monday trip.
  • Specials for both stores are posted on the shop’s social media accounts.

The Stock Market

Devin Barbee retired from NASCAR in 2008 to open The Stock Market, an upscale butcher shop, according to the Cabarrus County visitors bureau. The counter sells Angus beef, steroid-free chicken, turkey, pork and other specialty items. Barbee later teamed with chef Joey Graham on a barbecue restaurant, and the butcher shop shares a property with that restaurant.

Why we chose them

  • The Barbecue Bros blog described the shop as attached to the restaurant in 2015.
  • Cabarrus County inspectors scored the meat market a 97 in September 2026.
  • No website or posted hours turned up, so stop in before planning a holiday order.
  • A meat run can double as a lunch stop, since the shop shares the lot with the barbecue restaurant.

Address: Concord — 796 Concord Pkwy. N.
