Camp North End is the 76 acre former Ford factory and Army depot north of Uptown, converted into an open air campus of restaurants, bars, shops, galleries, murals and event spaces. A great deal of Charlotte’s independent food and retail has landed here over the past few years, which makes it the best single stop for seeing what the city is doing now.

What to know

HEX Coffee, Gravity Pizza and Curry Gate all operate on site.
A record store, pickleball courts and art studios share the grounds.
Markets and festivals rotate through the calendar.
Murals cover most of the outdoor walls.

Spotlight story Model Ts, missiles and murals: the four lives of Camp North End Henry Ford built cars here in 1924. The Army built Nike missiles here in the Cold War and gave the place its name.
