Grey’s Diner and Community Kitchen

Grey’s Diner and Community Kitchen is chef Sam Diminich’s revival of the 1940s diner car at 3100 The Plaza in Plaza Shamrock, the one Charlotte knew for two decades as Mattie’s. It opened in April 2026 with more than 100 seats across the original 40 seat car, a community room and a patio, and Axios named it one of its favorite openings of the year.

The food is diner classics cooked by the team behind Michelin recognized Restaurant Constance: a fried chicken sandwich, a burger, a short rib and eggs bowl, a full vegan lineup, layer cakes, pies and milkshakes, all sourced from the same local farms. Enderly coffee in the morning, cocktails at night, no reservation needed.
