Idlewild is the NoDa cocktail bar on East 36th Street that runs without a menu at all. You tell the bartender what you like and they build a drink around it. Charlotteans voted it the city’s second favorite cocktail bar, and its regulars would argue for first. The room is small and it moved here after years around the corner.

What to know

Drinks run about $17, which is worth knowing in advance.
Weeknights are quiet and weekends are packed.
Calling ahead is close to essential on a Friday.
The Ugly sits next door for a cheaper drink after.
