Kings Mountain National Military Park
About
Kings Mountain National Military Park preserves the site of the October 1780 Revolutionary War battle where Patriot militia defeated a Loyalist force, a turning point of the war in the South. It sits about 40 minutes from Uptown, just over the South Carolina line, adjoining Kings Mountain State Park. Entry is free, and the whole site takes about two hours to see properly at a walking pace.
What to know
- A 1.5 mile paved battlefield loop climbs and descends the ridge.
- Monuments and interpretive markers line the route.
- A visitor center explains the battle before you walk it.
- The adjoining state park adds longer trails.
