Matthews Community Farmers’ Market
About
Matthews Community Farmers’ Market is a producer-only farmers market on North Trade Street in downtown Matthews. The market started in 1991, according to a Charlotte Magazine guide, after a decade in which development displaced much of the town’s farming, according to the market.
Everything except fish must be grown, raised or made locally, and the fish is caught off the N.C. coast and brought in by the fisherman, according to the market. The 52 listed vendors sell grass-fed beef, pasture-raised pork and chicken, mushrooms and seasonal produce, and SNAP purchases are matched up to $50 a market day with funding from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Food Policy Council.
