Painted Rooster is the chicken restaurant on Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood, in the former Zada Jane’s space, with a menu of wings, tenders, nuggets, fried and grilled chicken sandwiches and a cauliflower wing for vegetarians, all built around a mix and match system of dry rubs, sauces and dips.
Texas mesquite is the rub to start with, hot honey barbecue, garlic parm and Cheerwine barbecue are the sauces, and Too Hot for the Menu comes with a no refunds warning. Waffle fries, a bacon chicken ranch mac and cheese, real cocktails and a covered patio for rainy days.
