Tacos El Regio

Tacos El Regio is a small taqueria in a strip center on East W.T. Harris Boulevard near Albemarle Road Park, and it is an ode to Monterrey: pork spins on a vertical spit behind the counter, a Charlotte FC scarf hangs over a row of soccer jerseys, and the game is on. It is open only Thursday through Sunday.

The trompo, marinated pork shaved off the spit onto a corn tortilla with pineapple and onion, is the reason to come, and the gringa puts the same pork with melted cheese on a large flour tortilla. Chicharron tacos, lengua, barbacoa and enormous aguas frescas round it out.
