Taqueria Los Altos is an east Charlotte taqueria on Monroe Road with a rustic, hole in the wall room, big portions, free chips and salsa, and a menu that goes from al pastor and asada tacos through burritos, chimichangas and a quesabirria plate.
The salsa de molcajete has real heat, the guacamole is made fresh, and the margaritas are strong for the price. It is a neighborhood regulars’ restaurant that outsiders find by word of mouth. The room is rustic and a little loud, the service is fast and polite, and the plates are big enough that two people can share a taco order and a burrito and leave with leftovers. Takeout is quick if the atmosphere is not your thing.
