Waterford Golf Club

Waterford Golf Club is the Hale Irwin designed public course on Clubhouse Road in Rock Hill. The course is a wooded property with consistent, well maintained greens that roll true, and the layout punishes anything left above the hole. Tree removal is underway to fix root intrusion, and a new driving range with ball tracking technology is in progress. The course sits about thirty minutes from south Charlotte. The wooded setting gives real shade on a hot afternoon, which matters here in July. Greens are the reason to play it, and they hold up better than the cart paths do.

What to know

• Cart paths need attention in places and have some large potholes.
• Yardage markers are inconsistent, so bring a rangefinder.
