Yunta

About

Yunta is a Peruvian Japanese restaurant on South Boulevard in South End that has stayed one of the hardest reservations in Charlotte for years, which is rarer than it sounds. Plenty of restaurants have a great first year. Yunta has stayed this good, and this cool, the whole way through.

The cooking is Nikkei, the cuisine born when Japanese immigrants settled in Peru, so ceviches and tiraditos share the menu with sushi rolls and wok dishes, and a Pisco Sour is the right drink. It is a big city dining room that does not try too hard, and the same owners run Viva Chicken and the sandwich shop La Lima.

What to know

  • Order a ceviche first. The Tiger’s Milk ceviche, $23, is the one.
  • Round out the table with bites and sushi rolls, then finish with something from the wok section.
  • The Pisco Sour is the house cocktail for a reason.
  • Same ownership as Viva Chicken and La Lima Sangucheria.
