Mallard Creek

The northeast growth corridor around Prosperity Village and Mallard Creek Road, with newer subdivisions, greenway access and a short run to Concord Mills.

Mallard Creek is the growth corridor north of University City, along Mallard Creek Road, Mallard Creek Church Road and Prosperity Church Road toward the Cabarrus County line. It was farmland and the old Mallard Creek Presbyterian community, whose annual barbecue is one of the county’s oldest traditions, until the 1990s.

Where it is

  • Mallard Creek Road and Prosperity Church Road
  • Highland Creek, the golf community
  • The offices and warehouses along Interstate 485
  • Mallard Creek Community Park and the recreation center
  • Concord Mills and the speedway ten minutes east

If you’re moving here

The university’s faculty and the research park’s engineers bought houses here, and the new-construction market in northeast Charlotte lives here: newer subdivisions, good value per square foot, and a spot between the Blue Line’s end at UNC Charlotte and the jobs along I-485. Uptown is 25 minutes by car, or a drive to the JW Clay station. It suits a family that wants a newer house at a northeast Charlotte price and doesn’t mind driving to the train. The schools guide covers the assignments, which are the neighborhood’s main question.

If you’re visiting

  • Walk or ride the Mallard Creek Greenway through the community park
  • Head east to Concord Mills, the aquarium and the speedway; the kids guide has the day
  • Come in October for the Mallard Creek barbecue if you can find the date
  • See why the growth guide follows this corridor
