Wilmore

A compact grid of mill-era cottages just west of South End, with the skyline visible at the end of several streets. Among the fastest-changing neighborhoods in the city.

Wilmore is the small historic neighborhood between South End and I-77, platted in the 1900s and built out with bungalows and mill cottages through the 1920s. It stayed working-class and overlooked while South End boomed next door, and the boom reached it last.

Where it is

• The Blue Line and South End to the east
• West Boulevard to the south
• I-77 to the west
• Wilmore Centennial Park in the middle
• The East/West station a short walk away

If you’re moving here

Buyers priced out of Dilworth after 2010 landed here, so you’ll see restored cottages next to new townhouses, with a few original families still on their porches. It’s walkable to South End’s breweries and the train, quieter than South End, and closer to the stadium than most people realize. It suits a first-time buyer who wants a house rather than a rental and doesn’t mind a block that’s still changing. West Boulevard to the south is the next thing to turn.
