Charlotte Hornets vs. San Antonio Spurs on New Year’s Eve

Evening tipoff · Spectrum Center

The Spurs make their only visit of the season on New Year’s Eve, which means one shot to see San Antonio in Charlotte this year. A Hornets game and then Uptown for midnight is a reasonable plan, and the arena is a short walk from most of the NYE parties on Tryon and Trade.

It comes at the end of a heavy home stretch: the Hornets’ longest homestand of the season runs Dec. 14 to 21, with the 76ers on Dec. 21, and the Spurs game caps the calendar year. The Hornets have 17 weekend home games this season and this is the one with the best atmosphere built in.

What to expect

  • San Antonio's only Charlotte appearance of the season
  • New Year's Eve at Spectrum Center, a walk from Uptown's midnight celebrations
  • Caps a December schedule that includes a five game homestand

Schedule

  • Dec. 14 to 21 Five game homestand, including the 76ers on Dec. 21
  • Dec. 31 vs. San Antonio Spurs

Plan your visit

Check the final tipoff time closer to the date; NYE games sometimes move earlier. Rideshare pricing after the game and near midnight is brutal, so the Blue Line or a hotel Uptown makes the night easier.

Good to know

  • Spectrum Center sits directly on the Blue Line at the CTC/Arena stop, so the train beats driving.
  • Doors usually open about an hour before tipoff. Give yourself time for the security line.
  • Parking is in the Seventh Street and Epicentre area decks, and most charge a flat event rate.
  • Bag policy is clear bag only.
