University City
The area around UNC Charlotte and the Blue Line’s north end: student housing, research and corporate campuses, the Greenway and a food scene that follows the university calendar.
University City is the district around UNC Charlotte in the northeast, developed from the 1970s with the campus, University Research Park, hospitals, shopping centers and the apartments that house 30,000 students and the research park’s workers. The Blue Line’s northeast extension opened in 2018 and ends at the campus.

- North Tryon Street, University City Boulevard and W.T. Harris Boulevard
- UNC Charlotte, with its arena, football stadium and gardens open to the public
- University Research Park
- The JW Clay and University City Boulevard stations

If you’re moving here
University City is Charlotte’s most diverse neighborhood by any measure and one of its most affordable: student housing, family subdivisions, and the new apartments and restaurants around the stations. The commute to Uptown is a train ride. It suits students, faculty, research park employees and anyone who wants a low rent and a station within walking distance.
