A Huntington Bank sign is going atop One South in Uptown as the bank’s Charlotte office doubles to four floors

News September 30, 2026 4 min read Suggest a correction

Huntington Bank will add a sign with the Huntington name to the top of One South, the 40-story tower at 101 S. Tryon St. in Uptown, and expand the bank’s regional headquarters there from two floors to four, the bank announced on Monday, September 28. The sign will face South Tryon Street, the main north-south street through Uptown. The bank said installation would happen in the coming weeks, and Axios reported the sign is expected to go up in October.

The Columbus, Ohio, bank opened a Carolinas regional headquarters in One South in 2023 and will now take all of the 39th and 40th floors, according to the bank.

The sign

The bank and Axios described the sign in some detail:

  • The logo will be Huntington’s signature green, with programmable lighting that can change colors for special occasions.
  • The sign measures 13 feet 4 inches tall and 88 feet 7 inches wide, Axios reported.
  • The sign sits lower on the skyline than the Wells Fargo and Truist signs because One South is a shorter tower.
  • A veteran-owned sign company from Rock Hill is building and installing the sign, according to the bank.

The office expansion

With the two new floors, Huntington’s space in One South grows to about 88,000 square feet across four full floors, Commercial Property Executive reported. The bank said Huntington already has several hundred employees at One South and at other Charlotte-area locations, without giving a number. Axios tied the expansion to a wider pattern of banks adding people in Charlotte because of the city’s workforce and population growth.

One South was completed in 1974, was long known as Bank of America Plaza and was once the tallest building in North Carolina. The tower has about 891,000 square feet, and Monarch Alternative Capital and Tourmaline Capital Partners bought the building in 2021 for $271.5 million, according to Commercial Property Executive. The tower has 22,000-square-foot floors, about 1,140 parking spaces and LEED Platinum certification, and now ranks as the ninth-tallest building in the state, the outlet reported.

Trent Holland, Huntington’s regional president for North and South Carolina, said the bank is excited to put the Huntington name on the regional headquarters. Brant Standridge, the bank’s president, called the sign and the expansion a reflection of the company’s commitment to the Carolinas.

Branches in Charlotte

The Uptown office came first, when Huntington launched commercial banking in the Carolinas in 2023. In September 2024, the bank announced plans to open about 55 branches across both states and hire about 350 people, Banking Dive reported. At the time, the bank had about 200 employees and 60 commercial bankers in the two states, and named Charlotte, Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Charleston, Columbia and Greenville as target markets. The bank now has 14 full-service branches open in 10 Carolinas markets, according to Monday’s announcement.

Two of those branches are in Charlotte, and more are planned. The Charlotte picture, from the bank’s branch pages, The Mecklenburg Times and Axios:

  • Huntington Bank SouthPark, at 6700 Fairview Road, opened in May 2025 as the bank’s first full-service branch in North Carolina. The phone number is 980-771-8063, and lobby hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
  • Huntington Bank South End, at 124 E. Kingston Ave., opened in November 2025, The Mecklenburg Times reported. The phone number is 704-916-0091, and lobby hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
  • A branch at 1527 W. Morehead St. in Wesley Heights is in the works. Construction bids for the site work and interior upfit closed on July 31, according to a construction bid listing.
  • Ballantyne and Myers Park were also on the bank’s list of possible branch locations, Axios reported in March.

Holland told Axios in March that “Charlotte is right at the top of that list” of places the bank wants to grow. He described branches as places where customers make big life decisions, and Axios cited an Accenture study that found 64% of customers turn to a branch when they cannot resolve a problem online.

Rai Glover is Huntington’s market president for Charlotte, according to The Mecklenburg Times. When the South End branch opened, the bank said branches in Greenville and Charleston, S.C., were next.

The timeline

Huntington’s own descriptions of how long the branch rollout will take have shifted:

  • In September 2024, Banking Dive reported the plan as 55 branches over five years.
  • In May 2025, Huntington’s announcement of the SouthPark branch described the plan as 55 branches over three years.
  • In March 2026, Axios reported a target of about 55 branches by 2027.

Huntington’s recent deals

The bank completed a combination with Texas-based Veritex Holdings and announced a deal for Cadence Bank last fall, and expected to become a top 10 U.S. bank with about $276 billion in assets once both deals closed, The Mecklenburg Times reported in November 2025. In May 2025, when the SouthPark branch opened, Huntington reported $210 billion in assets and 968 branches in 13 states. The bank’s website now says Huntington has full-service branches in 21 states.

Other banks are building branches in Charlotte too. Axios reported in March that Truist plans 100 new branches and 300 renovations over five years, U.S. Bank plans to double the number of U.S. Bank branches, and Bank of America is opening four new financial centers and renovating 10 more.
