Belmont
An early mill neighborhood just northeast of Uptown, changing fast around the Little Sugar Creek Greenway and the Parkwood Blue Line station.
Belmont the neighborhood (not the Gaston County town) is the pocket of 1900s-to-1930s cottages east of Uptown, between Parkwood Avenue, Seigle Avenue and the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. It grew up around the Louise and Highland Park mills and stayed a mill neighborhood long after the mills closed.
Where it is
- Parkwood Avenue to the north
- Seigle Avenue and the new townhouses to the east
- Little Sugar Creek Greenway’s urban section on the west edge
- Plaza Midwood’s Central Avenue strip a short walk away
- The Belmont Regional Center and community pool
If you’re moving here
This is one of the last inner-ring neighborhoods where an original cottage still turns up unrenovated, though not for much longer. It’s a bike ride to Uptown on the greenway and a walk to Central Avenue, and prices are a step below Plaza Midwood next door. It suits a buyer willing to renovate, or someone who wants a new townhouse on Seigle with a five-minute ride to work. The neighborhood has been through the same renovation cycle as Villa Heights since about 2014.
If you’re visiting
- Ride the greenway from Uptown through Belmont to the Metropolitan; the greenway guide has the route
- Eat and drink on Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood, a few blocks east
- Belmont has almost no storefronts of its own; the list below is the nearest on Central and Parkwood
