Madison Park
A large post-war ranch neighborhood along Woodlawn and Park Road, with the Park Road Shopping Center and the Little Sugar Creek Greenway at its edges.
Madison Park is the 1950s and 1960s ranch-house neighborhood between Park Road, Woodlawn Road, South Boulevard and Tyvola Road, built for the families of the post-war boom on a grid of brick ranches with carports and big back yards. Park Road Shopping Center, from 1956, is its main street and one of the city’s most-loved.
Where it is
- Park Road Shopping Center at Park and Woodlawn: a hardware store, a bookstore, restaurants and a grocery
- Park Road Park, with the duck pond and fields
- Little Sugar Creek Greenway along the eastern edge
- The Scaleybark and Woodlawn Blue Line stations a walk from the western blocks
If you’re moving here
Madison Park was the affordable side of the SouthPark-Dilworth axis. Renovated ranches now sell for what Dilworth bungalows sold for a decade ago, but they’re still the better value between the two. It suits a young family that wants a yard, a park, a train and a shopping center you can walk to. The neighborhood association is one of the most active in the city and the Fourth of July parade is the year’s main event.
