Third Ward

The southwest quadrant of Uptown, built around Bank of America Stadium, Truist Field and Romare Bearden Park. Game days define the calendar; the rest of the week it is one of the quietest parts of Center City.

Third Ward is the southwest corner of Uptown and the part that changed most in the last fifteen years. The blocks between Church, Mint and Trade that were surface parking in 2010 are apartment towers now, with the stadium, the ballpark and Romare Bearden Park in the middle of them.

Where it is

  • Bank of America Stadium, home to the Panthers and Charlotte FC
  • Truist Field, the Knights’ ballpark
  • Romare Bearden Park, 5.4 acres designed around the artist’s collages
  • The Gold Line streetcar on Trade Street
  • The Carson and Stonewall Blue Line stops

If you’re moving here

Almost everything is a rental or condo built since 2013, with the park as the front yard and the ballpark across the street. Panthers Sundays, Charlotte FC Saturdays and Knights nights make it the loudest corner of the center city, which is either the problem or the point. It suits sports fans and people who want the newest building in town. If you need quiet on weekends, look at Fourth Ward instead.

If you’re visiting

  • Stay here for a game or a stadium concert and walk to your seat
  • Catch a Knights game across from the park; the cheapest good night in Charlotte
  • Take the train in on event days; deck parking runs $30 to $60 near the stadium
  • Eat before the game with the stadium guide
  • See the park’s design in the public spaces guide
