Wesley Heights
A designated historic district on the west side with bungalows, brick streets and the Irwin Creek Greenway. Close enough to Uptown to walk on a cool morning.
Wesley Heights is the streetcar-era neighborhood just west of Uptown across Interstate 77, built in the 1910s through the 1930s with bungalows and foursquares around Wesley Heights Park. It has been restored house by house since about 2015, and it’s the closest single-family neighborhood to the stadium.
Where it is
- Grandin, Walnut, Summit and Litaker streets, the residential core
- West Morehead Street, the southern edge and commercial strip
- The Gold Line streetcar on Trade Street, with a Wesley Heights stop
- Frazier Park and the greenway link toward Irwin Creek
- Bank of America Stadium, a five-minute walk
If you’re moving here
A porch, a yard and a walk to a Panthers game. The renovated bungalows and the new townhouses on the edges are expensive; the apartments along Morehead are the way in. The Historic District designation protects the bungalow streetscape from the towers rising across the interstate. It suits someone who works Uptown and wants a house with a porch instead of a condo, and doesn’t mind that the neighborhood is still finishing its comeback.
If you’re visiting
